RAY BRADBURY was born in 1920. To celebrate his anniversary here is the beginning of "The Emissary", that we read in the class. Tirsolinos, Why do you think I have chosen this story for friday 13th?

馃悤馃悤馃悤馃懄馃憖馃憖馃崄馃崄馃崄馃崄馃崄馃崄馃崄馃崄馃崄馃崄馃崅馃崅HE knew it was autumn again, because Dog came running into the house bringing the windy cold smell of autumn with him. In every black dog-hair, he carried autumn: leaves caught in his dark ears, dropping from his white chest, and off his tail. Dog smelled just like autumn!Martin sat up in bed and reached down with one small hand. Dog barked and showed a long length of pink, wet tongue, which he passed over and along the back of Martin's hand. Dog licked him like a lollypop. 'Because of the salt on my skin,' declared Martin, as Dog jumped upon the bed. 'Get down,' warned Martin. 'Mom doesn't like you up here.' Dog dropped his ears. 'Well. . .' Martin softened, 'just for a little while, then.' Dog warmed Martin's smallbody with his dog warmness. Martin loved the clean smell of dog and the pile of colourful leaves on the blanket. He didn't really care if Mom was angry! 'What is it like outside today, Dog? Tell me.'...

REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE 5TH OF NOVEMBER

Bonfire night is celebrated on the 5th of November in the UK. The tradition began in 1605, when Guy Fawkes was arrested after his attempt to blow up the House of Lords (part of the Houses of Parliament). People lit bonfires around to celebrate the fact that King James the 1st had survived the murder attempt. At school students learn the poem "Remember, remember the 5th of November..." What other activities do they do on this day?

TIM BURTON'S CREATURES AND POETRY

This week in a class I have read some poems from the book The melancholy of Oyster Boy. Tim Burton's creatures are weird, funny and unique. Some of them are Staring girl, The girl with many eyes, Match boy, Stain boy, Toxic boy, Robot boy, Melonhead, Mummy boy, Brie boy, The boy with nails in his eyes, Oyster boy or Junk girl. I bought a copy of this book as an adult, so don't think these stories are for children because they are not. Some of them are touching and sad, others are funny and peculiar. Each of the characters is an outsider, many come from broken families, mostly parents who are not accepting their children who are different. Who is your favourite? You can read some of them in the link below.

A REAL DRAGON

Mythological and fantastic creatures is something that fascinates me. Do dragons exist? Can you think about a real animal that looks like a dragon? Listen to Wild Frank talking about this peculiar lizard.

What skill does it have?

What parts of its body does the video mention?

What adjectives are used to describe it?

What is its name?

What does it have in common with a dragon?

What does it use its yellow flag for?

What does it eat?

SIMILE: a figure of speech comparing two unlike things that is often introduced by "like" or "as"

Listen to the song and pay attention to the similes.

Can you come up with another simile using and animal and a feature? Take a look at the examples:

as stealthy as a tiger

as cunning as a fox

as fast as a hare

as strong as an ox...

What do you know about Pandas?

We have been talking about Pandas in the class. Remember you have to write a paragraph with some facts about one animal you choose. We use present simple to talk about facts.  Here are two pictures I took at Chend煤 of two baby pandas in the incubator and a sign asking tourists to be quiet and not to disturb their national treasure.

1. Giant pandas are good at climbing trees and can also swim.

2. Pandas go from pink to white and black (or brown).

3. Pandas have so many fans because they look cute..

4. Eating and sleeping make their day.

5. An adult can eat 12–38 kilos of bamboo per day!

6. Pandas have carnivorous teeth, but they eat bamboo and fruit.

7. You can see panda babies in August. Females mainly produce two offspring, but only the stronger one survives in the wild.

8. Prehistoric pandas lived up to 2 million years ago.

9. Pandas have 6 toes to grasp bamboo.

10. Strange behavior! Pandas like to lick copper and iron.

MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU

Good evening my students,
This is just a quick note to tell you some news from burlington.
It seems that the access to our burlington platform works better with Chrome.
It is also better if you go to Web book , not to interactive .
Another reason for problems of access was due to identification. Introduce just a name in First name and only ONE last name.
In username you can write whatever you want but with no spaces.
Other problem is using mobile phones instead of a computer.
If your book is a borrowed book, tell me and I will send you a new code.
It seems like a gymkana but I promise there are people who have been able to enter.
Keep trying...

READING A STORY:

Good storytellers are a jewel to me. Are you a good storyteller? Is there anybody in your family who you like to sit next to and listen to?

My cousin Miguel has filmed this beautiful tale with the girl he is confined with during the quarantine. I want to share it with you. Pay attention to the way the narrator reads the story, the pronunciation, but also to the pace(not too fast, not too slow), the intonation, the rhythm, the different voices and sounds...Also watch at the end of the video the making-of. They explain how they have created the figures using their hands or cardboard. There are many youtube tutorials about SHADOW PUPPETS. But again this is only a curiosity. For my groups that have to do a similar task, the creative part is voluntary. I understand that some of you are out of time or not good at technology. You can just read and record/film your story with a fixed image behind.  For more instructions of the activity go to my google classroom.

READING A POEM

I am giving you some examples of OPTION A from other students. Both poems are by Emily Dickinson. As you can see, it doesn't need to be very long. And the video with images is voluntary.

HAPPY BOOK DAY!!!!

My dear students, as you know I LOVE reading. I love watching booktubers with their book wrap ups and listening to other people’s recommendations. I also love stories overall and when people are good storytellers. Today the task will focus on practicing READING and SPEAKING so you need to pay attention to pronunciation, intonation, pace and rhythm of your speech.

OPTION 1: Choose a poem in English and record/film yourself reading it aloud. You don’t need to appear in the video if you don’t want to. It could be a video or an audio.
In my google classroom you have links to poems and some authors suggestions.

OPTION 2: Choose a short tale in English and record or film yourself reading it. It could be a fable, a fairy tale, a children's tale, a legend, the beginning of a book… If it is too long you can say TO BE CONTINUED…Remember it has to be from half to 3 minutes long.
In my google classroom you have links for tales suggestions.
You can also make a video and add images or gifs from the internet that are related to your poem or your story.

Have a nice day
Elena
